Why WareHog?

How many times in the last few years have you hired a skip and thrown in something useful, still perfectly functioning, but you knew nobody who wanted it? Or lost blood sweat and tears cutting the item up small enough so you could dispose of it in your bin?WareHog.com allows you to earn cash for what you are going to throw out, or at least reduce the cost of disposing of your Ware. You've probably been Hogging it in your garage for at least two years, but because you know it's worth something, you can't bring yourself to throw it out.

How does a WareHog auction work?

You pick the item you no longer need, let's say it is a settee. You know you paid €1,900 for it when bought it, but now you are looking at €450 in disposal charges to throw it in a skip. You balk at this (quite rightly) and decide to store it in the garage or the spare room or the friend's place. This is where WareHog.com can help you and the environment. You place your item including one or more photographs of it on WareHog.com. You say that you would like to receive €200 euro for it, but you are also willing to let it go for free, or even to pay somebody €10 euro to take it away. You decide how long you want your auction to run. We recommend 3 weeks. Over the course of 3 weeks (or the time you specify) your item will fall in asking price from €200 to -€10. Anyone viewing WareHog.com can see one or more photos of your item if you posted one and either agree to pay the current asking price, or can under bid, and wait until the item drops to that price - assuming there are not out bid by another bidder. Once any bid is made, you will be notified by email. If the bidder has underbid, you can still accept the bid they have made then and there, effectively ending the auction early.

Example: A typical WareHog auction in action might be as follows

Item: Fawn Coloured 3 seater Settee with two matching chairs
Start Price: €200
End Price: - €10
Auction Period: 3 weeks.

This means the price for your item will drop by €10 per day over 21 days. So, after 22 hours 18 mins the current price is (200 - (22.3/24 * 10)) = €190.71. At this point someone bids €100. You can either wait until the bid falls to €100 (i.e after 10 days or 240 hours) in the hope that someone will outbid, or you can accept the offer immediately, thereby ending the auction. WareHog will put you in touch with the buyer once the auction has ended. Your beloved settee will find a new home rather than go to land fill. If there are no bidders on your item, it will remain for sale on WareHog.com at the lower bid until sold or removed by you. Our market research has shown that many items which have some value are stored for up to 10 years before being disposed of in landfill. Don't let this happen to you!! If it's in the garage now, it most likely will be in 10 years - unless you get a skip!

So how much does this service cost? Nothing. It's totally free!!!

Support us and help protect the environment by reducing landfill, while at the same time converting unwanted goods to cold hard cash.

Tips:

If the item is large, such as a settee/couch/lounger you should have a short duration on the auction and a very low end price. You don't want to be storing this item for ages. If it's a smaller item like a lamp, you can easily store it so it may not be as urgent to get rid of it, so you can give a much longer auction period, even up to one year.
